How Siblings Can Affect Your Relationship?
By "sibling rivalry" we mean the antagonism or hostility between brothers and/or sisters which manifests itself in family fights (pulling of the sibling's hair or with the unwillingness to share a toy, and which try the patience of parents all over the world) to much more serious cases such as the permanent enmity between adult siblings because one is successful and the other is not.
Nature offers us many examples for sibling rivalry. The problem is basically one of competition for limited resources. Sharing creates the problem. Parents get exasperated and don't know what to do.
TIME, ATTENTION and LOVE is what parents need to give to each of their children. 1.
Looking through these albums, one can see that there are usually many pictures of the birth and first year of their first-born child. For the second child, there are fewer pictures. And, from the third child on, one may have a hard time finding pictures of them in the album - it's as if they didn't even exist! 2.
Their enthusiasm reduces afterwards. This has an enormous impact on that child and his or her later life. It is a common observation that, in most families, it is usually the first-born that has the greatest "success" in later and adult life. This jealousy and enmity continues later also and comparison kills the relationship.
If there are three sisters their husbands are compared and evaluated. This affects a person who is "not doing well" monetarily. Everything is compared between the sisters and whoever is short of something is looked down upon. This affects the marital relationship of the particular person and I have even known cases where they have ended in a divorce. The elder sister who is always used to getting her way feels that she should be one up on the others. 3.
If they treat everyone equally then the problem may subside to some extent. Ego and money power can ruin a sister or brother's marriage. Normally its women who are prey to this kind of relationship malfunction. 4.
By the way, what is doing well? Happiness and contentment are the most important issues in a relationship. Comparison and jealousy ruin not only relationships but also the individual. Nobody is happy and bitterness is all that remains. A simple advice from the parents, who are the representatives of God on earth, should be to compete healthily and not fight.
There are instances when out of spite and jealousy one sister snatches another's husband. There is devilish satisfaction in doing these things. All this stems out of childhood deprivation and attention seeking behaviors.5.
. Counseling and therapy sessions can remove the jealousy from the siblings mind and let them lead a happy and wonderful life.
